Boys & Girls Clubs of Lincoln Announces New VP of Operations

Boys & Girls Clubs of Lincoln/Lancaster County is welcoming Mark Barrera to their leadership team.


Lincoln, NE (February 7, 2023) — Boys & Girls Clubs of Lincoln/Lancaster County (BGCL) is announcing the hire of Mark Barrera as their new Vice President of Operations.


Before coming to Boys & Girls Club, Mark worked for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Business as the Assistant Director of Recruitment and Analytics, DREAMBIG Coordinator, and an instructor. While at the College of Business, he also led DEI recruiting initiatives and became a founding member of the Inclusive Excellence Advisory Board. Barrera worked with the University for six and a half years.


“I got into this position because of my passion for working with youth, mentoring, and wanting to help impact and change lives,” says Barrera. “BGCL is nationally known for the work they do with our youth, to help inspire change and promote inclusivity.


“This is why BGCL stood out to me and drew me in. My hope is to help the Lincoln/Lancaster chapter continue to grow, evolve and be the leader in our community when it comes to providing resources and opportunities for our youth to be successful in any career they choose.”

As a football coach, leader of the DREAMBIG academy, mentor and father, he has all the inherent talent and skills needed to take the Boys & Girls Club to the next level as we ensure our youth are prepared to participate in the modern economy so that we reduce the poverty rates in Lincoln.”


Mark Barrera has a bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University in Business. He has prior work experience in promoting inclusivity, recruitment, and data analysis. Mark enjoys interacting with all ages of youth and wants to leave a lasting impact on the people he meets.


Barrera has been married for almost 15 years. He and his wife have two boys, ages 12 and 9. In his free time, he coaches youth basketball, baseball, and tackle football. Mark also serves as an assistant coach for the Union College Women’s Basketball team.
